A New Year’s Prayer for Temple Shirat Shalom

May you get a clean bill of health from your dentist, psychiatrist, ophthalmologist, cardiologist, gastroenterologist, urologist, proctologist, gynecologist, podiatrist, plumber, and the IRS. May your

hair, teeth, facelift, abs, honey cakes, and stocks not fall; may your blood pressure, triglycerides, your cholesterol, white blood count, weight, and your mortgage interest rates not rise.

May you find a way to travel from anywhere to anywhere in the rush hour in less than an hour and when you arrive may you find a parking place.

May God give us all the fortitude to withstand this presidential campaign and may some of the promises be kept. May we believe at least half of what the candidates propose and may those elected fulfill at least half of what they promise, and may the miracle of reducing taxes, taking care of all the people’s needs and the balancing of the budget come to pass.

May what we see in the mirror delight us and what others see in us, delight them. May someone love enough to forgive our faults, be blind to our blemishes and tell the world about our virtues.

May the telemarketers wait until we finish dinner to call us; may our checkbooks and budgets balance and may they include generous amounts of charity.

May we remember to say “I love you” at least once a day to our partners, children and parents and all of our significant others.

May the Messiah come this year and if he/she does not, may we live as if he/she has, in a world of peace, with awareness of the spirit of awe in every sunset, flower, baby’s smile, lover’s kiss and every wonderful astonishing beat of our  heart.

May we smile and laugh throughout the year.

SWEET Weekend at TSS!!

It was a s w e e t weekend at Temple Shirat Shalom.   A celebration of “families” and “summer’s end” and “children” and “back to school.”  The impending fall season always brings thoughts of new beginnings, the upcoming school year and High Holy Days.  And for all of this, we celebrate.

How did we do this?  Well, we did it with Ice Cream, of course.  Last Friday’s Shabbat Service ended with a special Ice Cream Oneg welcoming back all of the TSS children and their families.  Back from summer vacations and long lazy days.  Hoping that all of the children of TSS have an excellent start to their school year.  On Sunday of that very same weekend, TSS hosted an Ice Cream Bingo event at the Wescosville Recreation Center.  There was a prize for every size, whether you were young or old … or just in between.  A Bingo Party for kids and their adults.  Although Bingo was the central theme of the day, Ice Cream made its appearance as well.  A big thank you to Donna Iorio and her team for making the Bingo Party a huge success!

It was a very s w e e t weekend indeed.

Congrats to Chad and Marissa

Last Friday a very special moment took place at Temple Shirat Shalom. Cantor Ellen Sussman performed an Ufruf, a special blessing, for the marriage of Marrisa Konigsberg and Chad Martin. This young couple chose to involve God in their marriage and in their life as a couple as Chad took his place among the Jewish people. Chad spent many months preparing for this by taking Adult Education classes and studying Torah. His commitment to Marissa and becoming a member of the Jewish people was evident in his Sermon as he spoke from the heart about what the process meant to him.

The choices to be married and to become Jewish are similar. Both need to be nurtured and nourished. As the years go by and the stress of the outside world invades, it takes courage to remain committed to promises made. And by allowing God into your life as a couple, you invite grace into your marriage.

We congratulate Chad and Marissa on their marriage and offer to them best wishes for a long and happy life together blessed by God.
