Deliver Meals on Wheels on Christmas Day

Meals on Wheels

Once again the JFLV is organizing volunteers to deliver Meals on Wheels on Christmas Day.  Christmas is Tuesday December 25, 2012.  The Jewish Community has delivered MOW on Christmas Day for many years now, allowing the regular volunteers to spend the day with their families.

If you are interested in volunteering for Meals on Wheels, please contact Don Bastian or Abby Trachtman. There are forms you will need to fill out beforehand, so please get moving on this if you want to participate!

You can contact Abby directly at abbyt@jflv.org to sign up or if you have any questions.

Chag Sameach Chanukah!!

The only mitzvah we must perform on Chanukah is the lighting of the Chanukiah, Chanukah Menorah. We also must say Al Hanisim, in the synagogue. There are special games, dreidel and special foods, latkes associated with Chanukah. In America it has become the custom to exchange gifts especially  for children. Plays and celebrations are held in Religious Schools. At home we should encourage our children to light the Chanukia and sing the blessings. The festival recalls a great act of faith, commemorating the liberation of our people “bayamim hahem bazman haze,” “in those days at this season.” Today Chanukah symbolizes the struggle of “the few against the many, the weak against the strong,” the eternal struggle of the Jewish people for their faith and existence. To the world it proclaims the words of the prophet Zechariah, “Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit alone”.

A Stoop on Orchard Street – Sunday December 16th, at 2:00 PM

Let’s Go to the Show!

This is the staging and cast of the Philadelphia production. Even though our kids are much cuter when they put on shows at school, this is a wonderful production and very professional cast. Some congregants who saw this in Philly gave it three thumbs up.
So join us on our TSS outing to the JCC in Allentown to see the musical “A Stoop On Orchard Street”. It will be performed only once in the Lehigh Valley – on Sunday, December 16th at 2:00 pm.

A Stoop on Orchard Street

What it’s About:
You will take a musical and nostalgic journey back to the year 1910. It is a 20 person musical with 18 original songs.

Ticket price:
If you are signed up with the TSS group – $45/person
If you go on your own – $55/person
(Remember, this is the professional Philadelphia production, not local amateurs!)
