Social Action Committee
As Reform Jews, social action is what we do and who we are. Social justice is a central concept of how we conduct our lives and place our priorities. We will strive to develop a robust and comprehensive program of social action at Temple Shirat Shalom. We want to put our faith into action by reaching out to others in our community to become agents of social justice in our Jewish and secular communities.
The social action committee develops social action projects and goals for the congregation. Also, themes of social justice are integrated into the religious school curriculum. A social action project is an integral part of b’nai mitzvah preparation.
Through the social action committee, we hope to mobilize the congregation to engage in projects and programs to help our temple community, the local community, and to serve the greater community on the national and international scale. These projects might address issues of clothing, food security, and housing/shelter. Other areas of concern focus attention on children’s issues as well as human trafficking. We will also develop interfaith outreach initiatives.
We want to evaluate current event issues from a Jewish perspective, and create an advocacy program to explore issues and define what and how to effect change in the world around us.

Fun Committee (activities committee)
Our goal is to develop a sense of community within the Temple membership, for friendship, fun, fellowship, and fundraising to make our congregation an extended family of choice and a true support network. . The fun committee sponsors a year-round program of events and activities, designed to build relationships among congregants, and strengthen the bonds between Temple members beyond the confines of formal services and Temple walls. We want to make our Temple house into a home, and turn our membership into an extended family. Whether it takes the form of a lecture series, trip to a museum, or progressive dinner – the idea is to just have some fun!
