Last Friday a very special moment took place at Temple Shirat Shalom. Cantor Ellen Sussman performed an Ufruf, a special blessing, for the marriage of Marrisa Konigsberg and Chad Martin. This young couple chose to involve God in their marriage and in their life as a couple as Chad took his place among the Jewish people. Chad spent many months preparing for this by taking Adult Education classes and studying Torah. His commitment to Marissa and becoming a member of the Jewish people was evident in his Sermon as he spoke from the heart about what the process meant to him.
The choices to be married and to become Jewish are similar. Both need to be nurtured and nourished. As the years go by and the stress of the outside world invades, it takes courage to remain committed to promises made. And by allowing God into your life as a couple, you invite grace into your marriage.
We congratulate Chad and Marissa on their marriage and offer to them best wishes for a long and happy life together blessed by God.
